Ballads of the Underworld
One of the coolest things I’ve ever been asked to do was to arrange a bunch of Prog Rock music from Hades and Hades II for full orchestra. And if that wasn’t amazing enough, I was also invited to London for the first time ever to attend the rehearsals and performances!
I, along with Dallas Crane (Austin Wintory’s assistant) arranged the entire program of very challenging music, usually totally by ear. It was a beast of a task, especially given Darren Korb’s penchant for intricate rhythms and time signatures. But I am very proud of the result, and the London musicians really batted it out of the park. This is no more apparent than in the Hades medley I arranged:
There is plenty more behind the scenes material coming for this massive concert, but for now here is the full event on the Supergiant YouTube channel. Standouts include Dallas’ incredible Coral Crown chart, Lament of Orpheus featuring Darren’s insane falsetto and Good Riddance, on which Austin and I worked closely together to do justice. I also had a blast with Rock and a Hard Place and Bewithcing Eyes, for very different reasons. I’m gonna try to get Score Study vidoes ready on all of those except Coral Crown.
My first year of full-time music profession stuff is going just swimmingly! I can only hope the following years will provide me with similar amazing experiences and full schedules!
